Picking out windows for your home or commercial property can be intimidating; but it doesn’t have to be! Visit a BuilderUp store in Southern Maryland, schedule an appointment to stop by our Annapolis showroom, or contact a customer service team member so we can walk you through the window purchasing process.
Before you get started with choosing the perfect window for your project, there are a few preliminary questions you should be prepared to answer:
Once you have these questions answered, BuilderUp can help you with the rest of the process. If you’re on the hunt for an affordable window replacement, vinyl windows are the way to go. However, if you’re looking for an intricate design with an exact color match, you may want to consider investing in wood or aluminum clad windows.
Whether you’re replacing a broken window or just looking to upgrade your current windows, many of the questions above still apply.
However, there are a few additional things you may want to consider when purchasing a replacement window from BuilderUp:
In order to properly measure for a replacement window, you may want to consider hiring a professional window installer. A professional installer will safely remove the trim, drywall and insulation surrounding the area where the new window will be installed. This will ensure an accurate measurement for the window opening sizes. For recommendations on professional window installers, contact a BuilderUp customer service representative at 410-618-3100.
Homeowners who want to replace their own windows should follow certain guidelines when taking measurements. BuilderUp recommends temporarily adding 2 inches to the height and 2 inches to the width of the visible portion of the window. As an example, if you measure a window that is 36” wide x 60” tall, we suggest having it quoted as a 38”x62” window. This method will help account for the portion of the window that lies beneath the siding and insulation. Doing this initial estimate will allow you to get estimated pricing on various types of windows without removing any of the siding on your home before the bid process. Once you have decided on the exact window you would like, you can go back and remove the trim to obtain accurate ordering specs.
